While Nick Suriano made headlines by reaching the final bout at the NCAA Wrestling Championships and Rudy Winkler continues to break hammer-throw records in his quest to win another NCAA Championship at the track and field championships next month, the collective on-field performance for Rutgers Athletics teams in 2017-18 wasn’t pretty.Rutgers’ fourth year in the Big Ten is over and an NJ Advance Media analysis shows just how much the Scarlet Knights struggled to compete inside the conference.

Rutgers finished last in the regular-season standings in seven sports. While baseball, tennis, softball and women’s lacrosse failed to qualify for their respective Big Ten Tournaments, Rutgers compiled a 3-5-1 record in Big Ten Tournament games.In Olympic sports where there is an all-teams conference-wide championships meet, Rutgers finished as high as 9th and last in seven of the 12 Big Ten Championships events they competed in across the board.Four programs — men’s soccer, volleyball, tennis and gymnastics — went winless in Big Ten play, while only one team — women's soccer — earned an NCAA Tournament berth.
Overall, the 15 teams that play head-to-head competition won 42.9 percent of their games, which was an increase from 36.9 percent in 2016-17.Here is Rutgers’ four-year overall winning percentages since joining the Big Ten in 2014-15:
